The Director of Public Works and Engineering outlined the report and confirmed that the Oxford-Waterloo Road Structure is being closed to avoid traffic usage that is unsuitable for that bridge. The local traffic detours were clarified.

    THAT Bridge Street Structure 34B-T9 and Oxford-Waterloo Road Structure 37B-OXF be closed to traffic until such time the Council endorsed Multi Span Slab-On-Girder Bridge as detailed in Report PWE 2022-02, is constructed and operational.

The CAO provided a verbal update on a request from Councillor A. Hallman for the use of the Wilmot Recreation Complex as a space for community discussions and meetings to assist Ukrainian refugees arriving in Canada. It was noted that community groups do not have additional information about future meeting space needs at this time; however, there have been local groups within the Township holding weekly meetings. It was suggested that Council cover the cost of the 3 meetings taking place prior to the March 28, 2022 Council meeting, at which time, staff could report back with additional details. The CAO advised that she has not had conversations with the organizing group and is anticipating meeting with the group and, if needed, discuss what other community spaces may be appropriate. It was noted that conversations with elected officials in neighbouring Townships have not yet occurred.

    THAT Council fund the use of a Wilmot Recreation Complex Meeting Room on March 11 and 18, 2022, and one additional meeting,  at a total cost of $1,105.95, for the purposes of the Wilmot, Wellesley and Surrounding Support for Ukrainian Refugees from the Council Operating budget,

     

    AND FURTHER THAT staff be directed to meet with the organizing group to determine their future needs and report back to Council on March 28, 2022.

16.1 Councillor C. Gordijk advised that the Wilmot Terry Fox Run fundraising is beginning with specially designed cupcakes at Cakr Maker in New Hamburg from March 22 to March 26 with proceeds donated to the Terry Fox Foundation. 

16.2 Councillor A. Hallman is hosting a bowling event fundraiser for Ukrainian refugees on April 1, 2022, for more information visit New Hamburg Lanes.

16.3 Councillor J. Pfenning noted that flooding risk is present and reminded everyone to stay safe and stay back from the water's edge.
